Samsung PN50C450 50 Inch 720p Plasma HDTV
How times have changed. You can now purchase a 50-inch plasma TV from a quality name brand for $799 and probably less. Samsung’s new line of affordable plasma TVs for 2010 offer a vivid picture, decent audio and quality construction at a price that would have been unheard of just a few years ago.
Setting up the Samsung PN50C450 is pretty simple. The most challenging part is connecting the provided bracket; some of the screws take a little effort to align properly. Other than that, however, assembly is a breeze.
As with all plasma TVs, it takes some experimentation to achieve the proper image settings. So much is dependent on the room and lighting conditions that everyone will have a slightly different experience. The standard setting is usually sufficient for most rooms, while movie is better for darker environments. Dynamic tended to be extremely bright and overemphasize the colors.
The Samsung PN50C450 plasma HDTV includes something called an E3-panel design. It refers to the fact that the plasma panel has been designed with a single filter, which improves the viewing experience in a number of ways.
First and probably most noticeable is the fact that it cuts down on the off-angle reflections that typically cause images to look blurry depending on where you’re sitting. Now pictures and text are sharp no matter your angle to the TV. The E3 panel also provides greater color saturation and contrast. Energy-wise, the TV exceeds the most stringent of energy efficiency standards, cutting down on your electric bill and helping the environment in a small way at the same time.
HD signals on the Samsung PN50C450 50-Inch 720p Plasma have all the vivid detail you’d expect. Unless you get very close to the TV, you really can’t tell the difference between 720P and 1080P on a TV signal. The difference will, however, be readily apparent on a Blu-ray disc. Sports enthusiasts will love the 600 MHZ sub field motion technology and incredibly quick response time of.001 MS.
With responsiveness and a refresh rate like that, you’ll never miss any of the action, and there will be no jerkiness to the picture at all. Standard definition channels also look good, much better than with a typical LCD TV.
The unit includes three HDMI connections, allowing you to connect a satellite/cable receiver, DVD/Blue-ray player and a video game console. That should be enough for just about anyone’s home theater setup. It also includes a proprietary Samsung feature called Anynet+ that helps control other components, but they need to be Samsung as well in order for the system to function.
You can also connect a camera or other USB drive to the Samsung PN50C450. The included browser allows you to play music, look at pictures and even watch video.
Overall, the Samsung PN50C450 50-Inch 720p Plasma HDTV is an excellent value. It offers all the features you would expect in a much more expensive model, and it looks great, too. If you’ve wanted a 50-inch TV but always cringed at the price, the Samsung PN50C450 Plasma HDTV may be just what you’re looking for.
